What Price a Child?

I've heard through the grapevine that there are already several students who have let it be known that they won't be able to return to school this year due to the closing of the teen parent center. It is pathetic and immoral the way this district has redirected resources upward toward district administrators and away from students. How do you live with yourselves?

  1. When so many cuts are made in the buildings which directly affect students (such as cuts to teachers, instructional assistants, counselors, supplies, etc.), then why does the district office (superintendent) proudly say he has cut a half-time position? This position isn't even in the district office! It is one of the print shop staff. The focus of the print shop is to provide a service for all teachers by making copies for students. This cut doesn't affect the district office at all. We now have only a half time staff member to do all the print shop work. She is wonderful, but it is unrealistic to expect a half-time employee to do a full-time job.

It is another example of the superintendent misleading the public about budget cuts. In the building in the district with the highest salaried employees, the cut was made to one of the lowest paid employees. And, again, the cut doesn't even affect the workings of the district office, but does affect every teacher in the district.

  2. Also, speaking of the cut to teen parent...

This cut is from the District Office budget, not the CHS budget. Again, like the print shop cut, this cut has no effect whatsoever on the staff or workings of the district office, but impacts students and staff at the high school.

How can the superintendent look people in the eye and comment that the district office has also faced cuts? Business as usual goes on there, but not in the schools, and not for students
