Sticks and Stones

I've now been called a skunk and a liar by Joseph Hunter's supporters but what they have yet to do is provide one shred of evidence to contradict what I have written.

If you think I'm lying and that:

He has the support of his staff? Prove it!

He didn't call us "provincial?" Prove it!

He didn't get paid twice for the same mileage? Prove it!

He didn't get the district to pay for his golf outings? Prove it!

He provided a detailed accounting of the bond? Prove it!

He didn't shift some bond projects into this year's budget? Prove it!

More students are passing the state tests? Prove it!

He has submitted monthly expense reports as required? Prove it!

He hasn't used district money to take his administrators out to lunch? Prove it!

He's already signed his new contract? Prove it!

Administrative costs don't now take up a larger share of our budget? Prove it!

You have the moral high ground in this controversy? Prove it!

  1. "...desperate rant..." ? "...losing support...? "...vengeful and extreme..." ?

Where is your evidence for these charges?

KS's blog entries have by this reader's perception been extremely well-founded in fact, and sound supposition.

The fact is that there is a rapidly eroding trust in the administration of our school district, and the Board and the Superintendent are retreating to a bunker mentality.

  2. Do you have evidence to refute the things I have said or not? Anonymous personal attacks on me don't lend you much credibility.

On one thing we do agree and I will refocus my energies to the collection of factual evidence.

  3. Thanks You KS for the professional response to Anonymous. I know you continue to focus on facts. I beg the school board to do the same. A united school board with great communication would certainly help correct this situation. Monmouth/Independence communities deserve better.

  4. Along with Hunter I feel the entire board needs to be recalled. They continue to not do their jobs to represent the community or the staff. The way they have mishandled the whole process to fill the interim board position has been ridiculous and lazy and irresponsible. They should be standing up to Hunter and standing up for the community by educating themselves and fighting to have the information they need to make educated, individual decisions. They have again allowed Hunter and Stoops to dominate what does and doesnt happen and are being led by their noses to do whatever H&S choose for them to do. H&S should be accountable to the board - not the other way around - do not continue to allow them to make unilateral decisions that effect everyone but themselves - get some guts or you need to get out. If you dont do it now, the community will make sure it happens in the Spring.

  5. The board has been very irresponsible for not fighting to have those names and the information about candidates for the interim position immediately upon receiving them. They should have had that information in hand the minute the deadline was over instead of allowing H&S to not "allow" them to even have access to them or be ready to vote on them before Monday's meeting. They should have also stood up for the right for the community to know who those candidates are. They are supposed to be on the board to represent the COMMUNITY and staff - not H&S - the community should have the right to know who those people are as public info - not hidden away or revealed in a meeting where personal agendas and nasty attitudes reign. Come on board members, you must stand up for what is right. Now! Or be assured that you will be recalled. New faces and new morals and values are needed, and if you cant do that job, the community will find others who will.

  6. We DO have individual board members who are trying to do the right thing. From my own time on the board, I know what a daunting challenge that can be when information from the supt. and the chair is not forthcoming. Board members who dare to ask questions end up marginalized. It takes an enormous amount of time and emotional energy to do battle with such an entrenched system of power and prvilege. I think we should be careful not to assume that all board members are equally culpable for the actions of the Board as a whole. Come to meetings and decide for yourself which board members are trying to represent the interests of the district and which are simply representing the supt.

  7. I don't believe you are losing support! I think you are gaining it... and the appreciation of many who would like to know the truth. Thank you for all you do.

  9. Sad to see things turning so icky.
Kathleen, thank you for all that you have done while serving on the board and all you continue to do to help make vital information (that has otherwise been withheld) become public record -both the good and bad. The I/O has also been very on top of things and it is good to get info out to the community somehow.
I wish that more info was public record, that more people would be honest and forthcoming and open. Our district and community seem to be really struggling in this area.
Other districts around us are going through the same struggles - but the way they are doing things are completely different - open, honest, active communication between board, supt, staff and community. This is what we also need, soon. I hope that we can learn from others and make our district and community the very best it can be by all of us working TOGETHER.
